This is Plate Number 6588B in “Sabina in the Grass,” second issue in the Zolan’s Children Plate Collection, the first limited-edition series by America’s beloved painter of children, Donald Zolan, hand-made during a single 22-day firing schedule in 1979.

According to WorthPoint.com,

Sabina in the Grass is one of the most if not THE MOST highly sought after Donald Zolan Plate, tied only with Erik and the Dandelion. Sabina is the 2nd issue in series of plates Zolan’s Children by the famous children’s artist Donald Zolan for Viletta Fine China w/Pemberton & Oakes. 8 1/2″ in diameter, this darling plate depicts a little girl enjoying the wet grass in spring. 1979.

Similar “Sabina in the Grass” plates on ebay are currently asking for $200 and $300.

This is a single, mint condition, Windstone “Male Ki-Rin” Oriental Unicorn, not in original box.

On the artist’s (M. Peña) company website, this piece is listed as model 921, a “Male Ki-Rin“, a piece retired in 2004.

Attached via a string ending underneath the felt bottom is a small booklet, with the artist’s information.

This exquisite creature was purchased several years ago from a local mall (White Marsh Mall in Maryland, if memory serves me correctly, although it is entirely possible that it was Columbia Mall) figurine store as a gift for a family member who turned out to already care for one. After the holidays, he was packed away in the gift box (not the original box) in which he came home, and has only recently resurfaced.
